About me I have been an active runner for 30 plus years. My running experience is that of a recreational runner turned running coach. I competed in cross country in high school and have continued to stay running focused. I have run 5k's, 10k's, 1/2 marathons, and marathons (3:13PR). I have qualified twice, and have run the Boston Marathon. In most races I usually place in the top 10% of the field and age group-wise find myself competitively in the top 3-5. I am active in the local running group, Athens Road Runners. org Professionally, I am a small animal veterinarian and have been practicing for 20 years. I have been married to Kathy for 30 years and have two teen boys, Jay and Reid.
I am a certified, fully insured running coach through the Road Runners Club of America. I am also a certified Jack Daniels VdotO2 distance running coach.
I am Red Cross certified in first aid and CPR, as well as AED certified.
Road Runners Club of American has developed a coaching curriculum to help standardize running terminology and logical coaching strategies. Jack Daniels, a world renowned running coach, has also developed many professional runners, track and cross country teams using his scientific approach to running. I do have a scientific background and thoroughly enjoy the physiologic aspects of endurance as it relates to training runners. Drawing from science and the process of periodized training plans, I believe you will find that my plans will be superior to any you can find in the cookie cutter style of those running "apps" or those found in running articles.
Why do I run? I have always been curious about human physiology and driving the human body to it's boundaries. Running has always made me feel relaxed and confident about myself. I am a goal oriented individual and a data junkie as well. I enjoy setting a goal and watching it develop and come to reality only through perseverance, dedication, self control and hard work. I believe that anyone can run, and if one puts their mind to it, they can actually be quite successful. Surprise yourself! Push the envelope beyond what you would ever expect yourself to be able to accomplish and watch how you the transformation occurs!
My training plans will be specifically tailored to you after reviewing a detailed insight of your running experience, lifestyle and time available for training, past injuries reviewing your past running achievements, and your current goals.
Why do I coach? I am so passionate about the sport of running and I really want to give back by helping bring others the passion and the confidence that comes with being good at something! Running and the science of running excites me! I understand the limits of genetics, but this doesn't stop me from trying to reach my full potential. I believe I can bring about the best in runners and I am able to tap that underdeveloped, hidden talent you have.
